![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The bus from Las Vegas to Los Angeles would have to deal with the same traffic that you would if you had driven a car. The drive is generally a 5-hour drive if there is no heavy traffic. The plane flight from Las Vegas to Los Angeles is only about a 1-hour flight, but when you add in the time getting to the airport, getting through security, getting on the plane, the flight, getting off the plane, then getting from the airport to your destination, it probably adds up to more time than it would take just to drive from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. I think you have been over-warned about Los Angeles traffic, frankly. I guess Los Angeles would qualify to be on a list of worst traffic, but not necessarily worse than Tokyo, Delhi, Sao Paulo, Jakarta, Bangkok, Dubai, Moscow, Shanghai, Mumbai, Mexico City, New York City, Seoul, London, Istanbul, Cairo, Lima, Bogota, Manila or even Honolulu. However to say that Los Angeles is some of the worst traffic in the world may be exaggerating a little. On weekends and holidays that doesn't happen. On city streets not too bad, but on the freeways (major highways) it can slow to a crawl during those hours. In fact it can be VERY slow going on the freeways from about 3 p.m. Traffic in Los Angeles is heavy on weekdays during the morning and evening rush hours. I guess it depends on your list of destinations in the Los Angeles area. But if there are places you want to go in the area that would take too long to get to on public transport, then you might consider renting the car. If you can get to all the places you want to visit without renting a car, I would say don't bother renting the car. Having a rental car will make it easier and faster to get around, but since you have 4 days in Los Angeles, I don't think time is crucial for you. Los Angeles does have public transport, so you can get around using that. Staying in Hollywood, are we really going to need a car in LA? Or can we use public transport, tours and taxis? We more than likely want to squeeze in the main tourist sights - which I think we can do by 'hop on hop off' bus, and perhaps head out to Santa Monica (I think this also may be possible with one of the hop on hop off bus routes?). My only hesitation with this is that we're from Australia, so we'll be dealing with driving on the 'other' side of the road, and i've heard that LAX traffic is among some of the worst in the world! Are we likely to get stuck in traffic jams for hours, that the bus could possibly help us avoid (as they know the area)? We would be travelling Vegas to LA on a Wednesday. My friend would like to hire a car and drive, which is an option I'd also consider. She mentioned that flying might still take some time, due to airport security, and getting out of LAX and to the hotel. My initial reaction was to fly from Vegas to LAX, but our travel agent suggested the LUX Bus - she said it's quite a scenic journey through the dessert, and has the advantage of being very simple and straightforward - picking us up from our hotel in Vegas, dropping us off at our hotel in Hollywood. We will need to get to LAX (staying at the Holiday Inn Express Hollywood), from Vegas. I'm visiting the USA in November, with a friend, and we are both first time visitors. ![]()
